JIMI SOMEWHERE BLUE SKIES

Jimi Somewhere is the young creator Benjamin Scahndy from Hokksund, Norway, who is determined to show another side to Norwegian music other than the overtired “scandi-pop” trope. Today, he’s released a six-track EP, titled Ponyboy. It’s an open invitation to his left-of-pop songwriting, including standout single ‘Blue Skies’. This song has also been transformed into an engaging music video which takes inspiration from Scahndy’s experience of love and heartbreak when he was around 15-years-old, and as he summarises: “Being young and in love can be so painful.” Speaking about the video for this nostalgic piece of alternative-pop, the artist says: “The video was written & directed by myself & my friend Martin Kopperud. We wanted to make something that felt like a short film. Some coming of age shit. I love movies and while writing songs I try to write as cinematically as possible. So finally having the budget to make a video that felt like a movie too was so sick. This was my first time directing and it was such a learning experience, but the whole crew was so amazing. Very thankful to be working with such young geniuses.” It’s hard enough to pull your ears away from the vulnerable narrative of ‘Blue Skies’, but with the dramatic music video, you have an easy reason to watch and listen even closer. - Hannah Thacker
